Ruten Fjellstue, located in Espedalen, is an authentic Norwegian mountain lodge packed with history and with stunning views towards Jotunheimen. Its hosts, Berit and Arthur, pride themselves on good food, a traditional setting, and a friendly atmosphere. The food is cooked by Berit, and is based on local produce, inspired by earlier generations and further developed with modern-day knowledge.

At Ruten Fjellstue we use ingredients and products from Gudbrandsdalen. Vegetables form Gudbrandsdalmat SA, herbs and seasoning from Aukrust in Lom, smoked, cured, and fresh powan and trout from Espedalen, cured meats from Lom and Sjåk, lamb from Bjørn Gillebo in Espedalen, beef and venison from Gudbrandsdalen, etc.

Espedalen Fjellbryggeri is Ruten Fjellstue’s very own mountain brewery where Arthur produces different types of beer served at the mountain lodge. Beer tastings featuring products from own and other breweries in Gudbrandsdalen are available throughout the winter season.

Ruten Fjellstue has 24 basic rooms with shower and toilet facilities. Alternatively, you can opt for a spectacular experience out of the ordinary and spend the night in Norway’s only elk observation tower – a unique wilderness adventure with opportunities for close-up encounters with the “king of the forest”.
