At Drengestua café, visitors are treated to homemade food and cakes in an historical setting by Aulestad Museum. The farm Aulestad in Gausdal was the cherished home of Karoline and Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson, and was also a place where they welcomed guests from near and far. This atmosphere of friendliness and hospitality is something that we aspire to replicate. Visit Aulestad during the summer season and enjoy a guided tour of this beautiful home, relax in the historical garden, or explore the grounds together with your children.

In the café you will find light lunch dishes, home-baked cakes, ice cream, chocolate, drinks and – last, but not least – our popular cinnamon swirls aptly named ‘Gledens gjærbakst’ (the pastry that brings joy) after Bjørnson’s famous saying “Joy creates more joy”! It has also been made very clear by the Gausdal locals that blueberry pancakes must feature on the menu. Maybe not surprising as this is said to have been one of Bjørnson’s favourite dishes. The pancakes are also very popular among our youngest guests.

Aulestad is ideal for meetings, and catering can be provided. We also cater for functions in the beautiful premises at Aulestad. The venue can be used to celebrate anything from christenings and confirmations to romantic weddings is a rustic setting. Our food is based on local and traditional ingredients, and we also have our own little chocolate factory – Varde Sjokolade!
